How to bend the aluminum plate? There are several ways to bend aluminum sheets

Home » Blog » How to bend an aluminum sheet?

To bend aluminum sheet, there are several ways and processes to choose from. Huawei Aluminum provides some common methods:
Mechanical Bending: This is one of the most common ways of bending aluminum sheets. Mechanical bending typically uses pressure to bend the aluminum sheet to the desired angle. This can be done with the following steps:
a. Get a metal bender or press brake and make sure it can handle the thickness and dimensions of the aluminum sheet.
b. Set the desired bend angle and radius on the bender.
c. Place the aluminum sheet on the bender so that it is in contact with the dies on the bender.
d. Using proper force and tooling, apply pressure on the bender to the aluminum sheet to bend it to the desired shape.
e. Check whether the bent aluminum plate meets the requirements.

Hydraulic Bending: This is another common method of bending aluminum sheets, especially for larger and thicker sheets. Hydraulic bending involves using a hydraulic system to apply force and bend aluminum sheets. Here are the basic steps:
a. Prepare a hydraulic bending machine and make sure it has enough pressure and capacity to handle the required aluminum sheet.
b. Place the aluminum plate on the base of the bender and bring the bottom mold into contact with the aluminum plate.
c. Adjust the hydraulic system settings, including pressure and angle, to accommodate the desired bend.
d. Start the hydraulic system and apply enough pressure to bend the aluminum sheet to the desired shape.
e. Check whether the bent aluminum plate meets the requirements.

Hot Bending: For some types of aluminum sheets, hot bending methods are available. This method involves heating the aluminum sheet to increase its plasticity, and then using a mold to bend the aluminum sheet either manually or mechanically. Here are the basic steps:
a. Using appropriate heating equipment, such as a torch or furnace, heat the desired portion of the aluminum sheet to a sufficient temperature. This usually requires exceeding the tempering temperature of the aluminum sheet.
b. Using the heated aluminum sheet, place it on the bending mold and bend it to the desired shape with proper force and tools.
c. Allow the aluminum sheet to cool so that it retains the desired shape.
d. Check whether the bent aluminum plate meets the requirements.

Whichever method you use, you need to ensure a safe working environment and take the necessary protective measures, such as wearing gloves and goggles. According to the type and thickness of the aluminum plate, select the appropriate method and equipment.
